Extraction of silica sand began in Weferlingen in 1925.
The sands are processed into a total of 20 different types, primarily WF 03, WF 04, WF 13, WF 14, WF 32,  WF 33, WF 34 and WF 84. The adjacent milling facility produces MILLISIL quartz flours W 3, W 5, W 6, W 8, W 10 and W 12 and SIKRON flour SGL 300.
